Bread Pudding Recipe
You can often use leftover bread to make bread pudding and it is claimed that the pudding will taste better if you use stale bread rather than fresh stuff. You simply need to make custard and pour it on layered bread and bake the pudding. You can add fruit or spices depending on your taste and you can eat it hot or cold. This is an ideal recipe to make with your children as it shows them how to use every last bit of bread so there is no waste. Any recipe which uses leftovers and items which would normally have disposed of is a great recipe to have.
Ingredients:
2 cups milk
1/3 cup butter
2/3 cup brown sugar
3 eggs
2 teaspoons cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
3 cups bread, torn into small pieces (french bread works best)
1/2 cup raisins (optional)
Directions:
1. In medium saucepan, heat milk just until film forms over top. Combine butter and milk, stirring until butter is melted. Cool to lukewarm.
2. Combine sugar, eggs, cinnamon, nutmeg, and vanilla. Beat with an electric mixer at medium speed for 1 minute. Slowly add milk mixture.
3. Place bread in a lightly greased 1 1/2 quart casserole.
4. Sprinkle with raisins or nuts if desired. Pour batter on top of bread.
5. Bake at 350 degrees F for 45 to 50 minutes or until set. Serve warm.
Chocolate Pudding Recipe
This is one of the easiest chocolate pudding recipes to make and great fun for kids as well to participate.
Ingredients
- 1 qt milk
- 5 eggs
- 10 tablespoons bread crumbs
- 1 tablespoon grated chocolate
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 tablespoon butter
Instructions
- Bring milk just to a boil, add bread crumbs and sugar; cook five minutes Take from stove and pour over the grated chocolate Stir until dissolved It will take about ten minutes Add vanilla to taste. Next add butter, then the well-beaten eggs; bake until firm in a pan of water When done, cool and chill Serve with whipped cream if you like!
